Review: Tieks by Gavrieli

Let me preface this entire post by letting you know that I paid full retail for these Tieks I’m about to review for you. No discount, no incentives, I’m not getting paid for this review, all opinions are my own.

That being said, many of you Pinterest users have probably seen a pin every now and then for these ballet slippers that come in almost every color imaginable, and lots of cute prints. The pins I saw of course, had captions that said something along the lines of “most comfortable travel shoes” or “best shoes to travel.”

Upon further inspection, you probably found out that these adorable slippers with the blue soles START at $175 a pair! What?! Could shoes even be that comfortable?

So I put them on my wish list because you know, maybe one day… and tried to forget about them. But of course, once you click on one ad, the entire internet knows what your’e into. Facebook, repeat Pinterest pins, etc.

So okay, let me check out the reviews. They couldn’t possibly be THAT good. I searched and searched and of the few reviews I could find, none of them were bad reviews. The reviewers loved their Tieks and some even had multiple pairs. Really? No one has anything bad to say about them besides the price?

Tieks has a 100% return policy as long as the shoes aren’t worn, (like, soiled from walking around outside, so that they can resell them to someone else). So if you really wanted to, you could buy the shoes and try them on for yourself, and if they weren’t comfy, you could send it back to them and get a full return as long as they weren’t worn outdoors. They even paid for the return shipping. Ok. So what’s the harm in ordering them? I’ll send them back if they’re not all they’re cracked up to be and I’ll get all my money back.

So I ordered a pair.

Aaaahhh!!!

I have a couple pairs of flats at home, but neither are comfortable enough to wear if I’m walking around anywhere. They’re like shoes that I wear with certain outfits, so long as I’m spending most of my time in them sitting. They’re not comfortable to walk in. So I’ve longed for a pair of flats that were comfortable to wear out and about, because literally all my shoes are sneakers. I’d like something nice, too.

I ordered a pair of burgundy patent leather Tieks.

They came in the mail 2 days later, thanks to the USPS Priority Shipping Tieks uses as a standard.

The Opening

First of all, the packaging. It reminded me a little bit of the celebrated Tiffany “little blue box”. The slippers came in a small turquoise box with a flower bow on top.

The flower bow that comes on the box made me instantly want to order another pair. I know that’s kind of silly, but it felt like a collectible one would accumulate as part of a collection.

Upon opening the box, there’s a card with a handwritten note thanking me personally for my purchase and hoping that I really enjoy these shoes. That was a really thoughtful personal touch that I really liked.

Then the shoes.

They come folded in half, but the soles are actually quite sturdy so I wondered how they would feel since they were curved upwards from the fold. The sturdy soles gave me some confidence as to the quality and comfort of the slippers; I think they’ll provide pretty good cushion and absorption while walking. The patent leather is soft, not stiff, which gave me some hope for comfort as well.

The leather is super soft, both inside and out, and I had decided on burgundy because they went with most outfits in my mind, but still add a little pop of color against neutral-colored outfits. And the peek-a-boo turquoise soles are kind of cute and an unexpected pop of color as well.

Let’s Try Them On

You guys. These are the most comfortable slippers I have ever put on my feet. The edges weren’t digging into my ankle nor the tops of my feet, and the leather was soft against my bare skin. The soles, like I mentioned, were really sturdy and stiff, and almost felt like my weightlifting shoes’ soles.

They almost feel like socks, gently wrapping around my bare feet; hugging, but not suffocating.

I wore them around my apartment for the rest of the day to get a feel of them walking around. By the end of the day, I decided I liked them enough that I wasn’t going to return them; I was going outside!

The Verdict

These slippers are definitely one of the most expensive pairs of shoes I’ve ever purchased. I spent an entire day in them walking around Madrid and didn’t have any pain, blisters or sores! That’s amazing to me, for flats!!

Are they worth it? In a word, yes. They are kind of pricey, but when I think about how difficult it’s been to find more affordable flats that don’t rub holes in my feet, yes, they’re worth it.
