ATGATT

ATGATT means “All The Gear, All The Time.” I’m not sure if Brittany Morrow coined the term, but she’s who I heard it from, first.

Many people are under-dressed for riding in Southern California; the weather is beautiful most of the year. I hear many times that it’s too hot to wear gear, or they’re just going for a quick ride.

There are a couple reasons I wear ATGATT, including safety, and my tattoos. Every motorcyclist knows the risks they take when they swing their leg over a motorcycle. It’s because of driver inattention, and debris in the road that I wear all of my gear, all of the time. I have also spent a lot of money on my tattoos, and I do whatever I can to keep them safe, including sunscreen and safety gear.

(Most of my gear has been discontinued, as I’ve owned them for many years). In this case, the links provided are successors to the gear I currently own).

1. Shoei Sylvan RF-1100 Helmet – The RF-1100 has been discontinued, replaced by the RF-1200. It’s probably time for a new helmet (considering I’ve had this RF-1100 for over 3 years).

2. Dainese Shotgun Mesh Jacket – My summer/spring jacket. I won this in a raffle at the D-Store in Orange County, CA at a ladies night. The Alice jacket has probably replaced the Shotgun.

When I’m not wearing my Dainese, I put on my leather Alpinestars Stella jacket. This is the only piece of gear that I am still able to wear after “testing” it in a crash. I’ve had this jacket since 2006, so of course it’s discontinued, being replaced with what looks like the Stella GP Plus.

3. RoadID Bracelet – My “In Case of Emergency” information is found on this silicone bracelet I had originally purchased for cycling. Still, I think it’s a good thing to have on hand (no pun intended) on a motorcycle as well.

4. Alpinestars GP Gloves – Pictured are a pair of Fox dirt riding gloves, but I also carry the leather GP gloves.

5. Drayko Drift Jeans – I finally purchased my first pair of riding pants this year. Cute, comfortable, and kevlar reinforced.

6. Sidi Vertigo Lei Boots – I’ve had these boots forever. Purchased around 2009, they’re still holding up wonderfully. I’d like to eventually replace these race boots with street riding shoes.

I always wear all of my gear, all of the time. I simply don’t think it’s worth the risk of breaking bones or sanding my skin off in the event someone is texting and driving. Things fall out of trucks, fluids leak out of cars, wind and rain push sand into the roads. So I will do everything in my own control to protect myself from the things I can’t.
